In Comparison with other Trail Cameras

Anthony , June 2008 (www.chasingame.com) - It all depends on what you want to do...Do you need 1 second trigger times? Or would 3 second suffice? Do you need night videos longer than 5 seconds? Each cam has its own pros and cons, so you will need to make a decision based on what you need. The Moultrie I40 now has a 3 second trigger time. On a trail this is slow enough to miss a lot of animals. On a feeder it works just fine. HCO ScoutGuard SG550 has a 1 second trigger time. This is generally fast enough for use on trails.

June 2008
- I'm a RECONYX guy for sure, they're made right here in Wisconsin and work great. But the size, features, and price of the HCO ScoutGuard are hard to deny.

Florida , June 2008 - I-40 pictures are generally brighter and have better color than the SG 550. However, the HCO SG 550 pictures are much more zoomable. HCO SG 550 pictures really allow you to zoom in on a subject and still have a sharp image. I-40 pictures get too blurry when zoomed in to tell what you are looking at. Also, the SG 550 has outstanding video quality. It's almost as good as a camcorder.

Michigan , July 2008 - By the sounds of it, everyone is falling in love with this camera. I've been reading review after review on this little charm. Tiny(3.25''X5.25''), sharp pics (5 MP), good battery life (5000 pics), fast triggering (around 1 sec)...

Texas, July 2008 - I recently purchased an HCO Scoutguard and have been pleased so far. It has decent IR night pics and color day. It has a 1 sec trigger time and has taken about 1k pics so far and battery level still shows full, also takes great videos. It makes no noise like the I40 when the IR lense switches and best of all it is very small and easy to conceal.

Jeff, August 2008 - I really like my SG 550, it takes nice pictures and it's alot smaller than most cameras. It has many nice features, i believe for the price this cam is hard to beat.

Liz, August 2008 - I am a little bit of a history buff and I recently was doing some online research. Some strange name caught my eye and led me to do a little looking into it. This name was xxx. This search brought up lots of things that also caught my eye. I am also a camera fan and the words xxx covert, covert Scouting, covert scouting camera, scoutguard USA, go covert, and See what your missing. Of this set of words and phrases was scoutguardusa and I asked myself what is a scoutguard? This name that led me to another site and low and behold there was a beautiful little camera designed to be very covert and easy to hide, which falls into another area of interest which is wildlife surveillance and deer and scouting cameras. I have been searching for a replacement of an old expedite film camera that served me well that was made by a company that is no longer in business. A covert scouting camera would definitely let me see if the above see what your missing is a fact. The research led me to www.huntingcamonline.com After more research, I decided to buy one of these HCO ScoutGuard SG550 from your authorized dealer. I do not want to see what your missing I want to see what I am missing, and I want to use a camera that has trustable company, support and service behind it! Trail camera, game camera, trail cam, wild life camera, deer cam, game cam, and deer camera. This all came up when I searched and it is strange how the searches led me to something that I was hunting for. I couldn't be more pleased with my HCO Scoutguard camera!

August 2008 - I gotta say, this camera is awesome. I received it yesterday (got here quick) and I have been playing with it ever since. It does everything as advertised and I can't wait to get this little thing into the deer woods (going in tonight). I have built a few home brew cameras and they are great but for the price this one has me thinking about not bothering with that approach anymore!

Ohio , August 2008 - Even though these HCO SGs haven't been around long, with owning or had owned Cudde, a few Bushnells, LR & the I-40 & 60s, at this time I'm saying HCO SG550 is the cam to go with.

Texas, August 2008 - I own an HCO Scoutguard camera and it's the first commercial camera I can honestly say I have been 100% happy!

August 2008 - First off let me start by saying that I am no expert on game cameras. I've owned some of the "walmart" brands and I've built a p32, p41 and s600 homebrew. I bought my first HCO sg550 for the video and flipped out over the performance!I've had it in driving rain storms with no problems and the battery life is solid. With that said I've sold my homebrews and bought two more HCO ScoutGuard sg's.....happy and no problems here at all!

Kansas , August 2008 - I did plenty of researching on the net and decided on the HCO Scout Guard.  It arrived yesterday.  The programming was straightforward and simple.  It's all ready for the field.  I plan to get it set out this weekend. Can't wait to see the results!

Illinois , August 2008 - I just purchased two of these last week and they should be here today, cant wait to try them out and then put them to use!  I have heard nothing but great things about these!

September 2008 - You will enjoy your camera - they really are a cut above.

Okalahoma, September 2008 – The more I use my HCO SG550, the more I like it.  I pulled it today after 5 days in the heavy rain.  It had 833 great pics on it.  This is a great camera for a great price.

September 2008
– HCO SG550 is my favorite camera so far! Getting addicted to the videos!

Texas, September 2008 - I have one HCO ScoutGuard as well as the CuddeBack, they have both leaped to the top of my favorite cams. My i40's are all losing the display, the newest is the worse (cant decide if I should take it back since it functions well-new one may not). The HCO ScoutgGuard is an awesome cam, super fast and clear. The ScoutGuard allows you to zoom way in on objects and keeps its clarity!

Florida , September 2008
- My I-40s have been working good but they are pre 2008 models. The 2008 models went backwards with slower trigger times of 3.5+ sec. and more whiteouts.  Thats why I have backed off from I40 until they resolve those issues...

Illinois , September 2008 - It would be more like saying "Buy a Moultrie I40 and worry about trigger speed" And..that you would, I purchased an 08' I40 a week ago that I am currently selling, the trigger is no where near satisfactory in a $200 camera.  I know the 07's are quicker but they are still at least 1.5-2sec. Overall the HCO Scoutguard SG550's edge out the I40 (07 or 08).

September 2008 - I love mine, very portable, affordable, and great battery life.

September 2008, Georgia - Q: What is the best Trail Cam for the money? I have had 2 stolen in the past so I really don't wont to put out a $300-$500 cam. I have a wildview that sometimes takes pic and sometimes doesn't and a Moultrie D-40 that just stinks all around... A: HCO Scoutguard SG550 is the best for the money hands down! So small you can hide it and it's an awesome camera for $199. Blows my I40 out of the water and of course the D40 as well. They also have a camo model that is better for concealment.

October 2008, New York - I own (should say owned) both the Moultrie I40 and I have two Scoutguards. I sold my I40 to my buddy so I could buy another SG. My vote for the $200 range hands down goes to Scoutguard. So far it is way more reliable than my I40 ever was. I used to get white outs with my I40 and tons of blank pics due to wind blowing trees or grass and the new I40s have lousy trigger time from what I hear. My ScoutGuard rarely has a blank pic and I have yet to get any picture quality issue. The trigger time is excellent as well. Both cams offer excellent battery life time.
